Artist Statement
Swirling Shells was created at dawn on a foggy Monterey Coast morning. Since June of 2007, when I first moved to the area, I have jumped out of bed almost every morning, grabbed my camera and traveled the half mile down my road to see what the tide has brought in. That particular morning the purple and brown jewel shell was a rare find. A few feet away my eyes caught the rainbow dance of a mussel shell. They invited me to take their portrait together.
For me photography is not so much the capturing of an image but more a sharing of an experience, a feeling, a moment in time. I am often reminded, especially in this time of great change, how fleeting these moments can be. Shortly after this photo was taken, a wave returned Swirling Shells to the sea. |
