Artist Statement
Marj Green is a digital photographer who "develops" her color images into fine art black & white prints. With her photographer husband, Tom Green, Marj travels throughout the West photographing landscapes, old buildings and manufacturing plants, cars/boats/trucks/planes, and general junk and rust. The image Manzanar Pitchfork was shot in the remains of the former mess hall at the Manzanar internment camp, on Highway 395 north of Lone Pine, California. Manzanar was the camp where Japanese-American citizens and resident Japanese aliens were interned during World War II. Why the pitchfork was inside the mess hall is unknown, but the pattern of the light through the window on the old floor boards made for an irresistible shot. Nikon D80, 38mm focal length with an 18-250 Tamron lens; exposure was f/19 at 1/4 second. |
